The two day Visualizing and Verbalizing® (V/V®) workshop prepares
you to teach students to image concepts and apply that imagery to higher
order thinking. This highly interactive workshop includes videos and
practice time, and will demonstrate the techniques for developing the imagery-language
connection (Concept Imagery) that is necessary for language comprehension.
The steps of the program begin with verbalizing a given image, and moves
through visualizing and verbalize whole passages of information.
There will also be instruction on the application of gestalt imagery to
writing skills and various content instruction. Class includes the V/V® manual.

Symbol Imagery for PHONEMIC AWARENESS,
READING & SPELLING (SI™)
2 day course - $549
The
two day Seeing Stars® (SI™) workshop introduces
techniques to stimulate the ability to create mental representations
(symbol imagery) for sounds and letters within words. The
SI™ techniques develop symbol imagery for consonants
and vowels and extend through single and multisyllable words
as a means of processing both sounds and letters within words.
This sensory processing provides a base for both phonological
and orthographic competency in reading and spelling, therefore
phonetic processing, sight words, spelling accuracy, and
contextual reading fluency can be developed. Concepts and
techniques are presented through lecture/discussion, demonstration,
videotape, and supervised practice. Class includes the SI™ manual.

LAC-3 Test
The focus of this portion of the workshop is on the administration of the LAC-3 Test, which is acclaimed as one of the most sensitive measures of phonemic awareness today. The LAC-3 Test administration will be modeled and practiced. Relationships to other measures will also be discussed.
OPAL™ Test: Orthographic and Phonological Awareness for Literacy
The OPAL™ Test is a sensitive measure of the ability to visualize the identity, number, and sequence of letters in single and multisyllable words. Data indicates the test is highly correlated with phoneme awareness (as measured by the LAC-3 Test), word attack, word recognition, spelling, and paragraph decoding (reading rate and accuracy combined). This portion of the workshop presents the data and is designed to prepare participants to administer and interpret the test. Case studies will be presented and discussed.
